COMPETITIVE. LONGFORM. IMPROV.

What Brotherly Love?

Welcome to Philly's most cutthroat competitive longform improv show. Two teams of improvisers take the stage to vye for the audiences affection and the right to return. Given only 25-minutes and a single suggestion from the audience, each group of performers creates an entire show off the top of their heads, before the audience passes judgement via secret ballot.

This is not a knitting circle. This is blood feud generating competition. The winner returns the following month to defend their position.

Originated at the iO Theater (formerly Improv Olympic) by Kevin Mullaney, Cage Match is the world's most dangerous improv show. In NYC, CAGEMATCH has been happening every Thursday night since 2000.

In Philadelphia, CAGEMATCH premiered to good reviews in September 2007. It runs one Thursday each month at the Shubin Theatre (407 Bainbridge) at 10pm. The rules and the format are the same, the action is just as intense, and the fans are from Phily.

CAGEMATCH is produced by the Philly Improv Theater, or PHIT for short (which we like to pronounce "fit"). Founded in 2005, PHIT is the only longform improv comedy theater in the greater Philadelphia area. Currently in search of a permanent home, the theater offers a one-week run of shows each month at the Shubin Theatre, produces additional shows throughout Philadelphia on a regular basis, and offers a full program of improv comedy classes and workshops for those interested in learning how to be funny.
